Tattoo-friendly onsen in Kusatsu

A mountain hot-spring town in Gunma built around the Yubatake, with town-run day baths and many ryokan.

Of the 12 Kusatsu baths we checked on their official websites, 3 allow tattoos, 4 allow them with conditions, 2 do not allow them and 3 do not say. Latest check: 9 Oct 2026.

Can you use Kusatsu’s town-run baths with tattoos?

Yes. The Kusatsu Tourism Public Corporation, which runs Otakinoyu, Gozanoyu and Sainokawara Open-Air Bath, says in its official FAQ that these three baths do not specifically refuse guests with tattoos, and asks everyone to follow bathing etiquette.

This covers those three baths only. We found no tattoo rule for the whole town on the Kusatsu Onsen Tourism Association’s site, and Kusatsu’s ryokan and hotels set their own rules — several below refuse tattoos in their large baths.
